A good misquote from ages past

I rather like the mis-quote from the Club of Rome:
the mis-quote:
http://green-agenda.com/globalrevolution.html
“The common enemy of humanity is man.
In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up
with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming,
water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill. All these
dangers are caused by human intervention, and it is only through
changed attitudes and behavior that they can be overcome.
The real enemy then, is humanity itself."

The real quote:
http://www.archive.org/download/TheFirstGlobalRevolution/TheFirstGlobalRevolution.pdf
The common enemy of humanity is Man
In searching for a common enemy against whom we can unite, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like, would fit the bill.
In their totality and their interactions these phenomena do constitute a common threat which must be confronted by everyone together. But in designating these dangers as the enemy, we fall into the trap, which we have already warned readers about, namely mistaking symptoms for causes.
All these dangers are caused by human intervention In natural processes. and it is only through changed attitudes and behaviour that they can be overcome. The real enemy then is humanity itself.

somewhat different!

  3. You are not posting the whole quote either. You left off this part:

"the real enemy, then, is humanity itself….we believe humanity requires a common motivation, namely a common adversary in order to realize world government. It does not matter if this common enemy is a real one or….one invented for the purpose.”

That also casts the quote Iin a different light also. That casts it as still a pure fabrication purely for political, not scientific or envoronmental, purposes.

    1. 100% correct. The part that was previously redacted/removed does nothing to change my view that these people are completely faith based. They needed something to fill the void of no religion and they found it. Climate Change is their religion. Funny...I'm not religious per se and my background is grounded in real science...have studied this issue closely since the early 90s. It does not resemble science. The Emperor has no clothes.

  4. apologies just seen your post
a search on the web shows many quotes with the same ellipses as yours but there is no reliable quote from the publication itself. there are unfortunately many missing pages perhaps it is there? If so can you please give a page reference and a larger quote without the ellipses. Thanks

  6. With more context it only enforced the original quote more, hes saying we must be sure that people see themselves as the enemy rather than the conditions.
